Colour was the word…the celebs got the memo
Not even a pandemic could stop the Golden Globe Awards, which took place on March 1.
The 78th ceremony was hosted by actresses Amy Poehler and Tina Fey at The Rainbow Room in New York. With the help of some editing tricks, it looked like they were actually there together.
Chloé Zhao made history after she won Best Director for Nomadland, making her the first Asian female to receive the award.
Borat Subsequent Moviefilm took home Best Picture, where lead actor Sacha Baron Cohen made an acceptance speech from his sofa. His wife, Isla Fisher, sat beside him, grinning ear to ear in a striking fuchsia dress.
This year’s red carpet was a little different to normal due to coronavirus restrictions. Some of the celebrities stepped out socially distanced, whilst others sported their looks at home on social media.
The event was bursting with colour – scarlet reds, forest greens, lemon and more. From soft pastels to bright electric shades, you could spot every colour of the rainbow.
Actress Cynthia Erivo turned heads in an apple-green dress and silver platform heels.
The Valentino Haute Couture number was made from scuba material, featuring structured piping and an A-line full skirt. The look was complete with white elbow-length gloves and chunky stud earrings. It was all about the drama.
Best Actress winner, Rosamund Pike stole the show in a crimson tulle gown. The Molly Goddard tutu featured layered detailing and thick straps. The black velvet details matched her military-style boots – adding edge to a good-girl outfit.
Actress Amanda Seyfried took to Instagram to show off her coral gown by Oscar de la Renta. The off-the-shoulder dress featured floral textured detailing and a low plunging back. The Mank star opted for classic Hollywood waves and $1 million worth of diamond jewellery by Forevermark.
Seyfried wasn’t the only one who brought the red carpet to her house. Best Actress nominee, Elle Fanning dazzled in a satin Gucci number. The pale blue dress featured crystal straps and a low-cut neckline. She accessorised with a delicate diamond bracelet and simple drop earrings.
This year’s fashion theme was a nod towards an optimistic future ahead – from the punchy colour palette to the dazzling jewels. After a year of living in a pandemic, it was just what we needed.
